A Soshanguve police detective was shot to death by a squad of the SAPS special Task Force, officers from the Hawks, the National Intervention Unit and the Air Wing on Tuesday 22.
The detective together with his gang attempted a heist of a Cash-in-transit van near Rooiwal power station, North of Pretoria. In the dramatic shootout with policemen who had been lying in wait for the gang, three robbers were killed, two wounded, three, one of them a Railway policeman, were arrested and one escaped.
The Soshanguve police officers confirmed to a student journalist that that is the only Soshanguve police station but when asked to elaborate briefly about their colleague who died during the shooting, and what the name of the deceased is, they pointed a NOTE on the wall written “NO TUT STUDENTS WILL BE ASSISTED WITH ASSIGNMENTS, REGARDS: STATION COMMANDER.” When asked for directions to their spokesperson they insisted that no help was going to be provided.
The National police Commissioner Bheki Cele was found guilty by the Public Protector Thuli Madonsela for improper conduct and maladministration after signing a multi-million Rand(R500 million) lease agreement of the Sanlam Middestad Building for police headquarters in Pretoria. A constable from Railway police Unit in Ga-Rankuwa was apparently arrested a month ago after being found to be in illegal possession of an R5 semi-automatic assault rifle, said The Star in a statement on Wednesday 23.
High positioned officials are found guilty of various criminal offences and sometimes fraudulence. Police officers engage themselves in crime activities but the entire police department claims to be fighting against crime in South Africa. “A total of R12.8 billion goes to the department of police, Justice and Constitutional Development, Correctional Services and the Independent Complaints Directorate. The budget provides R2.1 billion for the increase in police personnel to 202 260 in 2013/14, from about 190 000 at present… and R490 million is for construction of courts, including new high courts in Nelspruit and Polokwane,” said Financial Minister Pravin Gordhan in the budget speech on Wednesday 23.
A question was raised saying is the money going to be used profitable by the Police Department? What changes will emerge after the budget speech. DA will insist on the resignation on the ANC leaders but the sources reported that MR Bheki Cele is a close friend of President Jacob Zuma.
